Hi I'm Alisoun Mackenzie, author of the best-selling book Give-to-Profit: How to Grow Your Business by Supporting Charities and Social Causes. I used to think I had to wait until I had enough time and money to support causes through my business until I discovered the opposite is true. That incorporating fundraising into your business can be a great way to GROW your business.
My business giving journey started when I needed to raise funds for regular humanitarian trips to Rwanda. My business was already eating into my personal life and so to save time I decided to raise funds through my business. I started making miracle bead bracelets and running fundraising events that showcased my products and services. I never thought for one moment that doing this would generate more business but it did! Why? Because I 'd became more memorable to those I met, people wanted to support me and because my fundraising activities gave people a good flavour of my work, and how I could help them.
Since starting out I've discovered there are many ways to raise funds for causes through your business. However business giving can hinder rather than generate business unless you follow the steps I teach. I was also surprised to discover there is legislation in many countries that governs incorporating fundraising into your marketing/sales campaigns e.g. if you mention you are donating a percentage to charity.
